Field Tech
Not hiring yet — we will announce it. This role opens city by city once a program is signed, and it is full days · per location — a real job, not a couple of hours. Pay ~$30 / hr (est.). Placed through Workforce development, veterans programs. You can read the full listing now and leave a résumé so you are on the list when it opens.
The one-paragraph version
You are the outdoor half of the hardware. Roofs, poles, alleys, storm drains: gateways go up, batteries get swapped, burrows get verified.
What you will actually do
- Gateway installs: chimney and roof receivers on partner buildings, on the building's own Wi-Fi; ladder work, weatherproofing, a clean mount.
- Battery and node swaps on collars, stations and tree/pole nodes; you bring the spares, you log the serials.
- Trap checks with the partner: the crate closed on the wrong animal, a trap that's been sitting too long, a cat that needs the clinic.
- Burrow verification walks: the thermal drone flagged a point; you go stand on it, photograph it, confirm or clear it for the licensed operator.
- Drone-repeater flights alongside the Part 107 pilot: launch site, spotter, battery changes.
- Data checks in the field: a node that went quiet, a gateway that dropped — find it, fix it, report it.
Who fits
- Comfortable on a ladder and a roof, in the heat and in the rain.
- Fixes things. Knows a drill from an impact driver and which one the mount needs.
- Self-managed: a route for the day, a truck, a checklist, and no one over your shoulder.
- Calm around animals and around the people who live near them.
Requirements
- No degree required. Trade, military or field-service background is a plus.
- Placed through workforce-development and veterans programs.
- Driver's license and a clean record; ladder safety and basic electrical taught on the job.
