The one-paragraph version
Night thermal sweeps for burrows and daytime repeater flights when the mesh needs a bird's-eye node. Licensed, logged, on call.
What you will actually do
- Part 107 night thermal sweeps of the mapped rat zones: fly the grid, hand the thermal points to the data checker.
- Repeater flights: park a LoRa node at 400 ft when a collar goes quiet or a whole district needs a sweep; 20–30-minute flights, logged.
- Pre-flight and airspace: the permit, the NOTAM check, the spotter, the battery log. Nothing flies without the paperwork.
- Maintenance of the aircraft, the thermal payload and the repeater node; report anything that drifts.
Who fits
- Licensed and careful. The kind of pilot who cancels a flight when the wind says so.
- Comfortable with night operations and with thermal imagery.
- Available on short notice for a missing-collar flight; most work is scheduled.
Requirements
- FAA Part 107 certificate (required). Night-operations training and a thermal payload background are a plus.
- Placed through veterans programs and community-college UAS courses.
- Paid per flight; equipment provided, or bring your own on an agreed rate.
