Colony Caretaker

The one-paragraph version
You own one colony site and work it as a full day: the feed station, the litter station, the recall visits, the log. The cats know your truck before you park.
What you will actually do
- Daily feed-station round: refill, empty, wipe down, check the dispenser and the solar; note what the dashboard flagged overnight.
- Litter-station round: empty, re-bed, log which cats used it (the tag tells you), swap the treat hopper.
- Recall visits: when a collar needs a battery swap or a cat is due at the clinic, you buzz her in, crate her, hand her to the pickup, and put her back the same day.
- Crate acclimation and buzz-before-food training for every new collar on your site — three weeks of the same routine until she comes on command.
- Health eyes: weight, coat, limp, eye discharge, a cat that stopped showing up. You are the first person who notices, and you say so in the log that day.
- The handout table: pet food and basic-care handouts for unhoused and low-income pet owners near your site, on the days the schedule says.
- Keep the site clean and the neighbors friendly. Half this job is the people around the colony.
Who fits
- Reliable. Every day, same time, rain or heat. The cats set their clock by you.
- Calm with animals and patient with the ones that hate you for the first month.
- Okay with a phone app and a checklist; you will log every animal every day.
- Physically fine with lifting 30 lb, walking a site, kneeling at a station.
- Good with neighbors, store owners and the occasional angry stranger.
Requirements
- No degree, no experience required — we train you on our routine and the partner trains you on handling.
- Placed through the city's programs (Human Services, CalWORKs, recovery). People who did well in the pilot get first call.
- Rule that never bends: no animal handling without the partner's trained lead present until you are signed off.

Placed through: Human Services, CalWORKs, recovery programs. All roles are 1099 independent-contractor positions for now; no insurance or benefits are offered at this time, possibly in the future as programs are signed.
